Rishi Sunak Visits Energy Oasis Clients to See Energy Efficiency in Action

In January, Energy Oasis welcomed Rishi Sunak MP, Former Prime Minister and MP for Richmond and Northallerton, to North Yorkshire to see first hand how long-term, well managed energy strategies are resulting in significant financial benefits for UK businesses.

The visit took place in Northallerton at two of Energy Oasis’ long standing clients: JT Atkinson, a reputable builders merchant, and Yorwaste, North Yorkshire’s leading waste management company. Both organisations kindly opened their doors to demonstrate the energy efficiency improvements delivered by Energy Oasis, including intelligent LED lighting upgrades and on-site solar PV installations.

Long Standing Partnerships Delivering Real Results

Energy Oasis has worked with JT Atkinson and Yorwaste for over 10 years, supporting energy projects across multiple sites across the UK. What began as practical cost saving initiatives has evolved into a long-term approach to reducing carbon emissions, improving operational resilience, and lowering energy costs,

Mike Kaye, Founder & Director at Energy Oasis, said:

“It was a real honour to have Rishi visit two of Energy Oasis’ long standing clients in North Yorkshire.

We have been working with JT Atkinson and Yorwaste for over 10 years. What started off as a practical cost cutting project, helping to improve bottom line expenditure on utility bills and providing a long term index linked revenue to offset the bills even further, was actually the start of what is now called Net Zero.

The hundreds of tonnes of carbon that we have saved them have helped both businesses to be seen as leaders in energy efficiency and Net Zero in their respective areas. The real benefit to both businesses is the hundreds and thousands of pounds they have saved from reduced energy bills.”

Energy Efficiency in Practice at JT Atkinson and Yorwaste

At JT Atkinson’s Northallerton branch, the visit highlighted how investment in intelligent LED lighting and solar PV is helping reduce energy consumption while future proofing the site.

Jonny Atkinson, Head of Sales at JT Atkinson, commented:

“It was a pleasure to welcome Rishi Sunak to our Northallerton branch to see first hand the steps we are taking to improve energy efficiency across the business. The visit highlighted our investment in intelligent LED lighting and our solar panel installation by Energy Oasis, both of which are helping us reduce our environmental impact while future proofing the site. Sustainability is an important part of how we continue to invest responsibly in our branches, our people, and the communities we serve.”

At Yorwaste’s Head Office, discussions focused on renewable energy delivery and the practical challenges businesses face when implementing sustainability projects across multiple sites.

Kevin Smith, Head of Corporate Services at Yorwaste, said:

“It was an excellent opportunity to meet with Rishi Sunak and support Energy Oasis at our Head Office in Northallerton to discuss renewable energy and highlight the challenges that businesses face in the UK. Yorwaste and Energy Oasis have worked in partnership on several sustainability projects over the years but the chance to highlight the challenges business face was a welcome one.”

Why Long-Term Energy Strategy Matters for UK Businesses

Mike Kaye also addressed common misconceptions around Net Zero and rising energy costs:

“Net Zero has become tainted in the public opinion as they see it as a source to homeowners and businesses for rising energy costs, the reality this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Having Rishi on hand to speak to our clients and ourselves about how it actually works in practice was very valuable. It also proves that having a long-term strategy around energy consumption can really pay dividends if managed and handled correctly.”

The visit reinforced how well planned energy efficiency and renewable energy projects can deliver lasting cost savings, reduced carbon emissions, and greater resilience for UK businesses.
