Transforming the Workplace: Energy Oasis and Norsk Hydro Partnership

At Energy Oasis, we believe in the power of holistic energy management to create a greener future. Our partnership with Norsk Hydro stands as a testament to the fact that businesses can achieve financial benefits and make a positive environmental impact, all while enhancing the working conditions for their employees.

Let's dive into the details of our collaboration and the remarkable achievements we've accomplished together.

Tibshelf and Cheltenham Intelligent LED Systems

We kickstarted our journey with Norsk Hydro by implementing intelligent LEDs at Tibshelf and Cheltenham. We completed the Tibshelf project within just three weeks, enabling Norsk Hydro to quickly realise its benefits. The Cheltenham project, on the other hand, required more extensive work and was completed in phases, taking us close to 2-3 months to complete.

In Cheltenham alone, we achieved a staggering carbon cost savings of 78% on the lighting circuits, equivalent to 175 tons per year. These energy-efficient lighting solutions not only drastically reduced Norsk Hydro's carbon footprint but also transformed the work environment, making it brighter and more pleasant for employees. Following this work, plans have been agreed to undertake further work at these sites, before rolling out at Bedwas and Birtley.

A Circular Economy Approach

At Energy Oasis, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. In our partnership with Norsk Hydro, we embraced a circular economy approach by sourcing intelligent LED lights from Low Energy Designs that made use of aluminium from Hydro itself in the LED housing.

Positive Feedback and Future Plans

The impact of our work goes beyond numbers and statistics. Employees at Norsk Hydro have expressed their satisfaction with the changes. Health and safety has been enhanced, resulting in an overall atmosphere that is conducive to a pleasant working environment.

We have exciting plans in the pipeline with Norsk Hydro, including a phase 4 project in Cheltenham's anodizing areas, forecast to achieve an impressive 80% carbon reduction, equivalent to 45 tons per year. Additionally, we are actively exploring solar PV solutions at all 4 Norsk Hydro sites. The first scheme is expected to be operational by Q4 2023, with the others following from Q1 2024.
