The 2026 Knaresborough Bed Race brought together creativity, community spirit and plenty of friendly competition, with 90 teams taking part in one of Yorkshire's most iconic events.

As part of this year's celebrations, Energy Oasis was proud to sponsor the Environmental Award, recognising the team that demonstrated the strongest commitment to sustainability through the design and decoration of their bed.

The award focused on the environmental impact of the materials used, including where they had been sourced from, whether they could be reused or recycled after the event, and the overall sustainability of the design.

Celebrating Sustainable Thinking

Energy Oasis Founder and Director, Mike Kaye, visited and assessed all 90 competing beds, speaking with teams throughout the day to learn more about the thought process behind their designs and the materials they had chosen.

The standard was exceptionally high, with teams embracing this year's Swinging Sixties theme through a wide range of creative and imaginative displays.

However, one entry stood out for its commitment to sustainability…

Aspin Park Academy Named Environmental Award Winner

Aspin Park Academy receive the Environmental Award plaque.

The winner of the 2026 Energy Oasis Environmental Award was Aspin Park Academy, whose bed was inspired by the much-loved children's television programme The Magic Roundabout.

As well as delivering a colourful and creative interpretation of the theme, the team impressed judges with their approach to sustainability. The bed was constructed and decorated using responsibly sourced materials, with no plastic used within the design.

The project demonstrated that creativity and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand, making Aspin Park Academy a deserving winner of this year's award.

Following the event, the school was presented with a commemorative plaque recognising their achievement.

Supporting Sustainability Beyond Energy

At Energy Oasis, sustainability is about more than reducing energy consumption. It is about encouraging responsible choices, reducing waste and considering the long-term impact of the materials and resources we use every day.

Sponsoring the Environmental Award provided an opportunity to celebrate the individuals, schools, businesses and community groups that are embracing those values and helping to create a more sustainable future.

Congratulations to Aspin Park Academy and to all 90 teams that took part in making the 2026 Knaresborough Bed Race another fantastic community event.
