Yolk Farm - Solar PV

Energy Oasis delivered a bespoke Solar PV solution for Yolk Farm across two buildings, helping the award winning farm shop and cafe reduce energy costs while strengthening its commitment to sustainability.

With a busy cafe, fam shop and play barn, Yolk Farm has significant daily electricity demand. By investing in on-site solar generation, Yolk Farm is now producing 26% of its electricity directly from renewable energy, reducing exposure to volatile grid prices while reinforcing its environmental credentials.

43.2 kW Solar PV Installation Breakdown

Energy Oasis designed and installed a high-performance 43.2 kW solar PV system tailored to meet the diverse energy demands of Yolk Farm’s retail, hospitality and agricultural operations. The system was spread across two buildings and was engineered to maximise daytime generation and align with the site’s consistent operational load.

The installation included:

  • 96 x Trina 450W Vertex S Solar PV Modules: High-efficiency panels selected to optimise output across the available roof space while delivering long-term durability.

  • SolarEdge SE12k Inverter with Optimisers: Supporting efficient energy conversion and panel-level performance monitoring.

  • SolarEdge SE20k Inverter with Optimisers: Providing additional system capacity and enhanced reliability for commercial-scale generation.

  • SolarEdge Advanced WiFi Monitoring System: Enabling real-time performance tracking and full visibility of energy production.

With a projected return on investment of just 3.5 years and an expected lifespan exceeding 25 years, the system delivers rapid financial payback alongside decades of low-cost renewable electricity.

Funding Support

This project was supported through the Business Sustainability Programme, delivered by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. The programme provided grant funding to help businesses across the region invest in measures that improved energy efficiency, reduced carbon emissions and strengthened long-term resilience.

Funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the programme enabled organisations to implement sustainability improvements identified through energy assessments and feasibility studies. The initiative helped businesses take practical steps towards reducing energy costs while contributing to wider regional decarbonisation goals.

Through this support, Yolk Farm was able to progress the installation of solar PV, enabling the business to generate renewable electricity on-site while reducing both operational energy costs and carbon emissions.
